The journey to Entrepreneurship Begins
Focus and Discipline.
There was a specific time in history, when I chose job over Entrepreneurship.
I had a whole map. Career growth, job functions, professional bodies...I would start with road transport, switch to Maritime to make money, retire in Aviation because of their soft life.
I'd work with ECOWAS and then UN.
I had one Dr Eric I was looking to be like.
I saw his name on a poster, as a Guest Speaker for a Logistics conference.
He was the ECOWAS director/coordinator of Logistics and Supply chain.
With his portfolio, I realised that there was indeed a great career in Transport Management.
6months after NYSC, I got employed in ABC Transport PLC. They were the leading Road transport company in Nigeria.
Within a year, I was appointed as a Manager.
I still had my head in the game. I applied to be a Chartered Member of Logistics and Transport CMILT.
I didn't get the qualifications for the level I wanted, so I started online courses.
Alison.com came through for me. I studied some transport related courses for free.
I don't know how they decided to gift me one of my certificates during the covid pandemic.
I started studying more, improving myself and fulfilling my Cont Dev Plan as required CILT.
I sent professional applications to NITT Zaria.
I still had my head in the game.
After 3yrs, I felt I had gotten to the peak of my desire in Road transport.
I started pushing another transport business, I had wanted to begin before I got the position.
Dispatch Service.
Post covid gave rise to the explosion of Dispatch Riders.
I had bought a bike and started creating designs and social media presence as early as 2018. (HomeDel Logistics)
Now, I'm strung between going the entrepreneurial path with HomeDel or seeking out penetration into the maritime space.
Maybe not as a jobber, but I could work and learn from a reputable firm for one year, and get the in on port operations.
If ultimately money is what matters, do I really need to chase a path in maritime?
HomeDel Logistics offers great value, but can HomeDel pay me that much, coz sincerely HomeDel requires much funding and I need to get my head in that game.
I'm also tired of the retinue of a job life.
Yet, it seems like this job route is a faster path to this money something, except a miracle happens at HomeDel logistics and happens really fast...esp while the ocean is still blue.
I'm employed with another company that does what I want to do with HomeDel.
Except that they deal with interstate Road transport companies.
My mind is open to learn the process, while ofcourse doing my best to grow the company.
The things that needs to be done by doing, can only be learnt by doing.
So here we are...putting in the work...tryna live the dream against all odds.
There's light ahead.

Reawakening.
I've slept long enough.
I'm awake now...to live the dream.
I want to start saying my truth.
I may not be the person with enough discretion to hold it all in.
I find Writing, an easier way of expressing my opinions, and views on issues, in all spheres of life that I'm interested in.
I've sought other social media spaces, to post anonymously, but I found out it was still traceable to you, if someone really wants to.
So no more hiding under the veil.
I'm coming out...I'm out.
Let the world see.
Take the risk, break your head, break their hearts.
Let's see what's on the other side of life.

FAITH
Is FAITH needed for every miracle?
What is meant by corporate anointing?
There are several occasions in the Bible, where Jesus and his disciples healed with his power and not necessarily the recipient's faith ...Luke 6:19:, Luke 9:11:, Mark 8:24, Act 3:2...the list is endless.
Did Jesus or the apostles heal everyone because of their faith? No!
I think our ministers should be firebrand enough to command results even when the person's faith is not enough. Instead of the regular excuse that we do not have faith to receive.
How dem take know say we no get faith? Is it your faith?!
Faith cometh by hearing, how does the deaf or the dead or the demon possessed have faith for healing?!
Please go and swim in deep water of fellowship so yhu can command apostolic results.

Living For A Cause or For Your Course

Are you living for a cause or for your course?
The sincere answer to this question is the compass that direct the affairs of your life.
Your cumulative actions and reactions to the affairs of life has been on the basis of either of the divide.
A brother I respect so much, Chidi Nkwocha once asked "what is the best motivation; drive to be successful or drive to make the world a better place?"
I believe you can choose to either set your personal positive life's goals and walk them into fruition or commit yourself to a larger than life goal that would mostly benefit the society and perhaps, make the world a better place.
Both choices are not bad in themselves. If everybody is winning in their personal space, eventually, it would make the world a better place especially as we are interdependent on one another. However, some folks have the intended burden placed on them to better the lot of others. They are usually influential in their ways and tend to pull the crowd towards them with an electromagnetic effect.
This kind of people derive satisfaction in mentoring others and seeing the protégé tow their path, good or bad.
The art could be learnt though, as is most things in this part of our world.
So now the argumentum de choix is between living for a cause, a larger than life vision, living for others, adding to the society, sustainably making the world a better place...and living for the set course you desire in life, expectedly upward and forward; with your personal happiness as the primary objective, even though it could still benefit the society, largely because of the interdependence of the universe.
You decide, what format of expression appeals more to your inner soul
What makes your heart beat?
Where lies your strength?
For a cause or for your course?

Onye kwe, Chi ya ekwe.
Onye kwè, Chi ya èkwè!
This morning, I was meditating on God's will for us...you know when you pray and end it with '...God let your will be done...'
I found out that God's will is that you decree a thing, believe it and it will be established.
John 14:14 says..."ask ANYTHING in my name, I will do."
You are a King-Priest. Decree as a king and believe like a priest...then God will enforce.
A book I read on anthropology of the IBO ethnic group, writes that one of the reasons for the success of the IBO race is because they Do Not resign their life to fate/destiny.
Thus the Ibo saying: "Onye kwè, Chi èkwè"...meaning...If you agree, God will agree with you.
If you decide today, to get up and be successful today, God will back your decision and grant you success.
Have a great day!

The Devil's Fork.
THE DEVIL'S FORK.
Stuck in a dilemma...
A plethora of decisions,
Of options below the belt.
Choices of where to go from hence.
Wither the cookie crumbles,
Thither the tide tumbles...
What is thy heart's better option?
What dost thou seeketh?
Whence doth thou getteth heart's peace?
Which road takes you a step closer to your desire???

SEXCAPADE 2
SEXCAPADE...2
...Then two villagers walked pass
To take a piss,
In our condo, of all places;
Oh! What fear that gripped our soul,
I was knocked back into reality-
The sacrilege we had committed.
I held her close- in comfort,
As our hearts pound outta our chest.
There we laid, stoic, in the dead of the night;
Mute as a mute,
As we observed the drunken rantings of our potential captors,
And endured the foul smelling rain bath.
What a twist, from heaven to hell!
Then came the million dollar question- what if we get caught?
In the testimony of two, a word is established;
We couldn't possibly deny flat.
Would they resort to blackmail?
Or have their own bite of my "cake"?
Or worst case scenario, have us do the dance of shame,
And excommunicated from the village?
Time froze again!
And their urine seemed endless.
Hearts in hand, clothes still unwrapped.
Panting and sweating in terror.
...would they proceed further...
...Oh-my!
...Is that torchlight I see...
...Good Lord!
...We are done for...
Alas, they turned around,
Then we heaved a sigh of relief.
That relief was short lived,
As a phone rings...
Griiin...Griiin...Griiin...
(Shiiiit!)
It gets louder...
Griiiiin...Griiiiiin...Griiiiiiiiiin...
One of them who had gone ahead looked back,
Towards our corner,
Tryna make the origin of the sound.
Oh no...we have been made!
Oh yes, we were made;
Made to feel abit at ease,
As the other partner picks-up, and walks away...
P.S
Then I muttered #sacrilege
And she asks, 'what is sacrilege?'
I answered...what we have just done.

In the eve before the dawn, the spirit of the night creeps in,
Bringing untold pleasures as the night unfolds,
The thoughts of the heart meets with the eyes,
Emotions welling up on the beak and the tip,
Guilty pleasures of forbidden treasure.
The soft moon lit the path,
As we sneaked into the solace of thorns and thistles,
Consumed by lust, at the risk of a loss.
Nothing could kindle this wild fire...
As the charge spreads through,
Torrential current intercepts,
One-two, the house is down;
Three-four, lock and load,
Thrusting us into the galaxy of milky way.
Silent noise filled the air,
Words unheard and sights unseen,
Moaning in unknown tongues,
And seeing things from cloud nine,
Relishing every kiss and midas touch,
Swimming in an ocean of passion,
No style could serve, spontaneity at its best;
As we journeyed into the third heaven.
A splendor of radiance filled my groins,
As we approached the orgasmic gate of heaven...
Then I blacked out...time froze.
All I could see were angels...flying in the ninth cloud
Could this be heaven or was I dreaming?
Either ways, I didn't wanna be awoken....

#ABUSED
I yielded in fear, for fear is all I've known.
The rod, Aunty does not spare,
For every missed step.
Uncle gives me comfort at the expense of his "rod".
Took my innocence and my sense of worth.
The million "whys " in my heart,
The ocean of tears in my eyes,
The quiet screams in my head,
The unseen battles in my mind...
Who will save me from this despair?
My life is torn apart.
I didn't choose to be born without.
Would that life was far from me,
That I could someday park my bags and run afar...far away to nowhere.

Hope Against Hope
If I were to write, what would I write?
My thoughts, my sights, my opinions into words.
-of a tunnel with no light, sky with no stars...
Or of the spotlight of stardom, the shooting stars in the galaxy.
Not all that is looked is seen, nor said, heard.
The third eye telescopes than the microscope.
When the clouds be full, it rains...and it's about to;
Can you feel the East wind, West, North and South?
Don't flinch else you'll miss....
For glory, you'll have more, if you cast your ore
Through the fiery furnace,
Of rejections and setbacks,
Of No and Nos.
Yet you keep going because you know,
For yesterday's Nos, the morrow might be a Yes.
You robe in that dress that cloaks your stress and brings your best.
For you know there is hope of a better tomorrow,
Of spotlight, of stardom, of a shooting star up in the sky!

What Is In A Name
WHAT IS IN A NAME....
A Rose 🌹by any other name, would smell as sweet
When I was serving in Bayelsa state, I was posted to The ministry of Transport, which was what I wished for. However, I wasn't satisfied. I wanted more...more money and more productivity.
Then one day, an old school mate met me at the Nccf bayelsa family house. He had won the 1st runner up for the Governor's award of Outstanding Corps member for 2015/2016.
In the course of our reconnection, I narrated- to him, how things were tough in Bayelsa and how I wanted more.
Then he said something that not only struck me, but gave me the required thrust from wishful thinking to decision making. He said to me: "Guy no dull o, you be FUTO student!"
And instantly, that was all the Holy Ghost push I needed to jump on my feet and hit the street.
And what was the result, I got a school (extra PPA), an accommodation, extra moral classes, my choice subject...good pay and experience. Still blended well with my PPA.
That is what a name can do. I couldn't possibly fall my FuTo-hand esp after seeing another FUTOite bag an award.
Not just FUTO, I have voluntarily taken up some leadership roles because I remember that I am a Rotaractor; or that my name is Eric, which means King/Leader; or that I am/was a JesusCorper; or a Christian
Be conscious of your identity, it's a great self motivator.
I am proud to have been a FUTOite, I am proud to be a Christian, we are doing great world over!
I love NCCF Bayelsa family (The Kingdom Ambassadors).
On the flip side....
I applied for a job somewhere, after the HR staff perused my CV and letter, nodding head in appraisal...
Then I asked him, what next?
He said I should await their call for exam and interview.
And I was like: hmmm, nawa o! Exam...interview...
In a bid to reassure me, he then said...
Shey you are a FUTO student na?!
And I was like...
FUTO student ké...I am a Jesus student o!
Who futo eppp!

Public Perception.

PUBLIC PERCEPTION.
For or Against....
One of my mentors, Pastor Olakunle Soriyan, a renowned motivational speaker, once opined that we should care about people's perception, it's an investment of our reputation capital.
That got me thinking; does it really matter?
Does public opinion add anything to one's general self worth and profitability?
Well, that would depend on how one looks at it.
There is the negative criticism that seeks to downplay one's persona; and the constructive criticism that adds positively by shedding light on one's shortfalls in order to stir improvements.
No man is an island of knowledge and as such, two good heads are deemed better because iron sharpeneth iron.
Take the game of football for an instance, a player who is thinking on his feet can choose to take the best decision, of whom or where to kick the ball, from his own judgement. However, the spectators with wider view, sees the multiple options and could rightly have a different opinion on a player's better choice. Does that mean that the player was wrong? No! Neither were the spectators.
That being said, public opinion is beyond who is Right or Wrong; it is about seeing from the eyes of others. Not that it is consequential, rather it is expedient.
Lets look at another scenario, a true life account. I was in the market with my cousin and my brother's wife. We were evaluating and commenting on the shapes and sizes of the female passersby... and in the course of our discussion, she (the wife) said and i quote "I like Eric (that would be yours truly), him no carry church for head like him brother".
Initially, i felt comfortable at the remark which technically meant that i blended fine with them and they were comfortable in my company but on a second thought, i realized that i was not known for my Christianity.
That means if i were in the biblical Antioch at that time, i would not be named- a Christian, as other disciples, because my lifestyle seated well with things and people of the world.
Then it struck me, the words of Jesus Christ...Who do people say i am? (Why did He care to know)
People's opinion of you is not necessarily who you are and would not change your personality, but might affect your influence over them. It is quite interesting that in a world of constant change, the world still expects you to have a consistent character as to judge you thereby.
People mirror your actions and learn passively from the things you say and/or do. The world is watching you with their own eyes of expectation. They expect that you match your word with action. Whatever you do, people will always build their own opinion/interpretation of the action. They are entitled to it. A sage once said, that opinion is like a nose, everyone has got one, and its got a couple of holes in it.
That been said, we must not rely on people's appraisal for our personal conviction of what gives us heart's peace. You cannot please the world. Until one takes a walk in your shoes, one cannot really tell the reason behind another's actions. People should innocently ask- to know, before making judgement. You cannot run away from it, we live in a society therefore people's judgement of your person will affect the way they relate to you.
The final question becomes, who/what am i known for?
In the business school of thought, it is said that "perception is reality".
What are you known for?
What people say or think of you will determine how they deal with you.
Are you known for your professionalism, your integrity, your punctuality, neatness, charisma, cheerfulness... and other forms of attribute?
Brand promoters and marketers have taken advantage of this perception thingy to build a popular portfolio around their brand name.
You do the same; build a public persona of what you want to be known for.
The more you do it, (fake or real) the more you become.
Take charge and keep winning!

What Is Your WHY?
WHAT IS YOUR WHY???
why do you do the things that you do, the way you do them?
Do you in the name of flexibility, act on impulse or do you at the risk of being stoic, act intentionally, counting your steps all the way?
Life is spontaneous and should be lived therewith. The change making the rounds now, means that one is expected to transform overtime, in order to conform with the new order. If you do not move with the rest of the world, you would be left behind.
Looking critically, however, despite the orbiting of the earth, the atmosphere have always contained oxygen- which we breathe in, and the carbon dioxide, which we emit; the earth's structure has continually being a strata of cloud, air, land and water...better put, biosphere, atmosphere and hydrosphere. Has this changed? I strongly doubt.
That been said, I dare say that change is not really constant but relative.
Driving home to our human relationship, and the knowledge that life, though flexible, has some constants; should one remain rigid in one's ways or make a transition withersoever the cookie crumbles?
Must there be a rationale for all our actions or should we keep an open mind and live life in the present, knowing that the future is pregnant.
Is there always a reason for what and how we do things or are we just living naturally without giving a second thought to the ripple effect of our actions?
There is a maxim- that life has a purpose and should be lived purposely.
No doubt, living purposefully gives satisfaction and drive to live life to the fullest- setting and achieving set goals.
However, on another look at this purposeful living, would it be a life of pretence when one gets into a Character in order to achieve a set goal? This part of the world where I live in, usually concludes that such one is a pretender just because you see inconsistency of character and personality; forgetting the fundamental precepts of survival. In a world that is unpredictable, why would one expect the other to remain the same in personality at all time. Having a reason for your personality changes is then perceived as a character defect.
On this premise, what then is the true meaning of the word Pretence? Purposeful living or pretence, anyhow you view it, they both call for intentional living,,.
Knowledge must be constantly challenged and improved upon overtime, to check it's consistency with the times.
Hear the conclusion of the whole matter- life is complex and ideologies, uniquely dynamic. One should be open to change and let wisdom lead. And as for the whys, the Bible says owe no one any explanations, save Such is life.

The 8th Wonder of The World
The warmth that greets the cockles of your heart.
The joy from within, that makes you beam with smile.
The thrill that tends to pull your trigger, at the sight of your target;
Beyond words are the expressions of your delight,
At the presence of the object of your fascination.
The joy from within, that makes you beam with smile.
The thrill that tends to pull your trigger, at the sight of your target;
Beyond words are the expressions of your delight,
At the presence of the object of your fascination.
Like cologne, they carry their own aura.
Their oestrogen zone overshadows multiple testosterone.
Their presence puts us at our best, unconsciously trying to impress.
We barely compete in looks, until a lady arrives the scene.
Oh woman! Beauty, Brain and Character...
The 8th wonder of the world.
Their oestrogen zone overshadows multiple testosterone.
Their presence puts us at our best, unconsciously trying to impress.
We barely compete in looks, until a lady arrives the scene.
Oh woman! Beauty, Brain and Character...
The 8th wonder of the world.
Thou frail creature, yet potentially magnanimous,
Thou art a crown unto thy man-
Thy Bermuda eyes magnetizes men towards thee-
Thy lustrous lips, whisper echoes of inspiration, love and strength-
In thy touch, flows electrodes that cripple the spine-
Thy twin tower, overpowers the 6th sense:
Thy asset, a wonder...
And in thy honeypot, lies pleasures untold
Thou art a crown unto thy man-
Thy Bermuda eyes magnetizes men towards thee-
Thy lustrous lips, whisper echoes of inspiration, love and strength-
In thy touch, flows electrodes that cripple the spine-
Thy twin tower, overpowers the 6th sense:
Thy asset, a wonder...
And in thy honeypot, lies pleasures untold

I thought my life was complicated, I thought I had no capacity to love, I thought I had no right to be in a relationship, I thought I had no right to be happy.....
I was focused on getting past something I had little or no control over the outcome.
I put my life on hold, trying to achieve one goal......
Little did I know that i was putting my life in a hole.
I was focused on getting past something I had little or no control over the outcome.
I put my life on hold, trying to achieve one goal......
Little did I know that i was putting my life in a hole.
I wanted just two things.......
This thing and That thing.
But nothing was coming forth.
Not because I was not focused or determined enough...
sometimes, its just not within your powers.
No-matter the plans, things still fell apart.
This thing and That thing.
But nothing was coming forth.
Not because I was not focused or determined enough...
sometimes, its just not within your powers.
No-matter the plans, things still fell apart.
Almost tearing me apart.
Expectations upon expectations....
And then my greatest fear, their faith begins to wane; their pressure weighing me down.
My ideology goes under microscope.
Change is constant and difficult...so I hold on to the status quo.
Pressing on- unto nothingness.
But in all these, I did not lose my identity.
My faith in me was my resistance to their pressures, it bore me up.
The right association, kept me afloat.
Friends left.
Some I pushed away, some I came away...some ran away..................#2_be_continued

KNOWLEDGE-
The known knowns.
The known unknowns.
The unknown unknowns.
WISDOM - The use of knowledge
When you live your life yourself, you take responsibility for your actions but when you are pushed, gingered, coerced to make a move, good or bad, you tend to care less about the outcome. However, there would come a time when you gotta accept that path that life has tossed you, knowing that nothing is vain, even though some are not expedient. Full understanding is a strong motivational force in directing one's commitment towards a project. With in-depth comprehension, one can then choose amongst other choices,to key into a venture. Even convictions can be influenced, the final choice of. Keying-in must be undertaken by the key persona.
There is need for a working mindset, a living school of thought, a defined vision, an upheld principle and a chosen way of life. You can think and act different from the norm but reality checks should be made on the way, to ensure a measure of actualization I for one, think and guess you might agree with me, that the way of life should incorporate the socio-physical aspect of living. Being unique- standing out of the crowd should not necessarily mean one should distant one's self from other members on one's immediate community. The social interaction would privy one to resourceful informations, trends and vogue.
The constant phenomenon, would create room for flexibility in your plan; accommodating new development in all facets of life, including your belief system.
Whatever school of thought one chooses, proactiveness is key.
Do you have a plan, make it plain. Abstract, general, vague goals ain't truly motivating. It kinda has to be personal. Being. Specific somehow makes it personal. At least you know without doubts, that you are chasing this point or the other for now-The Power of Focus. Give time, all the time necessary, to setting and achieving your specific goals. Bind them round your neck that you may not derail.
Do NOT be deceived be uncertainties. Do not gamble except its an acceptable loss; do not even play to lose in the game of life. Yes, you can always win; if you come to every disparaging meeting with the mindset of negotiation. Negotiate to your advantage.
I also think it is not every word of the Bible that should be taken as one spiritual bourgeois. Some are literally written with literal meaning and application. Their significance can be tested at face value and they will stand. Let him that think he standeth, take heed lest he falls. Check and. Double check to be sure. No one is an island of knowledge therefore in all your getting, get wisdom- proactive, practical use of knowledge; and get understanding- insight into the realities of life. It would guide your decisions and see you through in your chosen path.

…we all have some amount of
evil/immorality burning within us. The responsibility lies in us to either curb
or give expression to these innate urges.
In this ever changing world, where the despicable of yesterday
has become today’s norm. Who sets standard of morality? Our culture, church,
home, society, state law, or conscience?
The religious school condemns it outright; the society
frowns at it; culture forbids it; Nations set up laws against it…yet it prevails-
in secret.
One is moved to ponder if it is embedded in our genetic make-up,
caused by our moral upbringing or perhaps it has evolved in humans due to the
pressures of life. It truly begs the question of its origin. If it is caused by
lack of morals, how is it that we have ministers and their children involved in
it? If it were due to pressure, then we would have more homosexuals from Middle
East Asian region where there are strict laws against sex and inter sexual
relations.
Where then is the origin of this homosexuality or better
put, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender LGBT?
Freethinking, free spirited, free minded…free free free,
even solitude comes to mind as a major influence of this lifestyle. It is our
understanding of life on earth and the desire to experiment through the sojourn
that probably gave rise to homosexuality.
In my early school days, I learnt that survival was the
economy of the world. Survive or die. However, this lifestyle seems to have
defied that notion. Despite the millennium long pressure against it, it is not
just rearing its head, its actually taking a grandiose stand for itself…having
garnered the legal recognition of the foremost world power. Indeed, it has
endured time.
I think in their freethinking mind, they concluded that the
world is over populated. Therefore, they selflessly decide to put a stop to
reproduction and a start to maintenance of the existing. Nevertheless, truth be
told, marriage and sex with even the opposite sex is more for fun than
procreation so they biblical point of going into the world and multiply does
not really hold water.
Furthermore, a major argument that was proven biologically is
that these desires are embedded within us/them. Even those who were not exposed
to a homophobic environment grew up to discover that they lacked the required amount
of testosterone and oestrogen that causes them to desire the opposite sex.
Scientifically, the body is explained to work like magnets,
in which like poles repel and unlike poles attract sexually. Therefore, because
they, the homosexuals, lack the right amount of attracting element, they blend
towards whatever catches their fancy. That is why most start with innocently
playing out their fantasy as bi-sexual before fully becoming homophobes. Truly,
these LGBT traits has been recessive, even was expressed in us, probably while
growing up but we did not allow such lifestyle sit in.
Some others grew in environment surrounded by same sex.
Influenced by some freethinking minds, their bodies began to adjust to homophilia,
and as they grew older, the affinity for homosexuality increased. These classes
of homophobes are salvageable, if they be willing.
Finally, the core folks, majorly people of solitude/lonely
lifestyle and the other extreme of self-willed fellas. In the course of their
experimental life and inadequate satisfaction of their sexual urges, result to
homo, bi and multi sexuality. These are the class that fucks anything including
but not limited to animals and under aged, incest, chronic masturbators…even
rapist. This mental disorder has no known cure yet but is controllable.
Then, there is the question of affection for same sex. This
crux though in contention, this is the backbone of homosexuality. This is what
really makes LGBTs seem human. It is against this backdrop of love, care, affection,
and emotions that has sustained homosexuality to be beyond an experimental
lifestyle. This has been recognised by science, nature and even has biblical
backing.
Make love, not war.

DIGGING DEEP
DIGGING
DEEP….The Quest for Truer Truth.
…perhaps in
writing, I might myself, find truth.
Is
Christianity just another religion that is in existence like any other before
it?
I bet there
are differing opinions for and against, with archived points to the chosen
stance. A critical look at Christianity raises several questions, not just for
it but also for all other existing religions. However, Christianity has chosen
to play God (superiority) rather than exist at par with and like other
religions. Christianity and its whims need no introduction hence, the focus in
this work is their claim of superiority or as usually acclaimed- “The only way
of life”.
If it (Christianity) is the only
way of life, it sure begs the question of its whereabouts thousands of years
that life has been existing, especially in Africa; where nothing about it was
ever known before the colonial era…including in Egypt, the archaeological
origin of man.
Of a truth,
there has been life, civilisation, and religion in Africa long before the
European invasion of the 19th century. The religion of that age and
time had supreme authority and influence over the lives, policy, and
coexistence of the people ceded to it geographically. The gods of the old
religion blessed when honoured and wreaks havoc when angered. The only way to
reach the gods was through the chief priests who stood as the custodian of the
temple.
Furthermore,
juxtaposing Christianity with Islam, which is as old and wide spread as it, we
find out that Christianity came into Africa about the same period Islam
entered.
From
observation, it seemed whichever got to you first is the one you would cling on
to. The Arabian exploration that conquered North Africa including Algeria,
Egypt, Niger republic and chad, also swept into northern Nigeria through
Sokoto. Led by the late Emir Al-mu’minin- Usman Dan Fodio; a firm jihadist of
the nineteenth century. The movement ab initio was a forceful one; a “holy war”
according to the laws of the Qur’an. Cruel as it seems, it also preached peace.
It has spread across other parts of the country and has endured the times. The
Islamic jihad law teaches, “A Muslim shall not willingly dwell in a land of
unbelief, but if he has the means at his disposal, he should immigrate from it,
to the Abode of Islam. Those Muslims dwelling in the Abode of Islam should wage
the jihad against those in the Abode of war (the unbelievers).
It is in
the unwritten books of the law that the Muslim jurists divided the world into
two parts, the Abode of Islam and the Abode of war- that is, the territory not
under Muslim rule.
It is the
duty of every Muslim to summon the unbelievers to embrace Islam; if they accept
the invitation, they become members of the Muslim community and their territory
becomes part of the Abode of Islam. If they refuse, they should be fought
against; if they are defeated, those captured in the war becomes slaves…
That
movement led to the birthing of some of the northern empires like Zamfara,
Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Ilorin etc.
It is
assumed and rightly so, that the Christian invaders unlike the Arabic foot
soldiers, came through the sea- that is, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Lagos
waterways. This probably led to the wide spread Christianity in the east and
the south-south Nigeria.
Back to the
point in view, Christianity like every other new religion in Nigeria came in an
era of religious transition and was widely embraced. However, apart from the
stories of the Bible, looking critically around us, it is obvious that the new
religions bore better palate to the people.
-A religion
where they can still supposedly call forth their blessings,
-A religion
in which they do not have to offer regular blood sacrifices,
-A religion
that offers supernatural gift/abilities,
-A religion
that preaches peace and forbearance,
-A religion
in which you do not get instant punishment for your crimes,
-A great
life after death…
What more
can one ask for?
That is
freedom at its best…and most new religion bears that on their platter.
The only
major exception that Christianity offers is its policy of being all
encompassing, a Free State system and the infilling of the Holy Spirit. The
only limitation however, is the variable requirement of Faith, whose variance
for efficacy is unknown.
Every
religion holds different claims, promises, and abilities. That only makes true
one thing of the human race- that religion is the new opium for the weak,
ignorant, and desperate. Nevertheless, I have seen the strong hold fast to
their faith and have prevailed in it…perhaps; religion is the way of life (and
Christianity, the only way of life).
On
supremacy and Nigeria as a case in study, research has it that the Islamic
movement advised their new converts to destroy their old deities and follow
Allah; they did and nothing happened to them. The Christians destroyed their
shrines too and liberated communities from idol worship and the people lived
free. This indeed establishes hierarchy in the spiritual realm, that the new
religion is superior to older religion. Perhaps truly, the new religions
believe in same God but bear different names and share some watered down story
line.
Furthermore,
I am yet to see, read, or even hear it ever said that a Christian is binding
someone from the shackles of Islam or a Muslim casting away the spirit of
Buddha from anyone. They only renounce and switch faith. This further
illuminate something more- this is the era of free religion and some even
mistakenly hold the thought that there is no God- Atheism. You can even decide
to live life without any religious affiliation- Free thinkers; and still be
free and successful. Whatever you do not believe, they say, will not work
for/against you. So where does that leave us? Is science the new religion?
Because it sure seems to hold its own claims and promises too. I think they
have their own sect called the Realist.
You might
wonder where I belong, even though that is inconsequential, I will tell you
nonetheless. All religions beg questions of reasonable doubt. Most religion do
not have constants- real constants because even the scientific constants are
subject to change upon new discovery. Religions attribute people’s success to
luck, grace, star, destiny, sacrifice…nothing is certain, and none has prove
to hold true and infallible over time. There are always slippery slopes
alongside.
However,
they all share hope of continuous life. Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Hindu,
all promise great life on earth, and glorious life after death. Even scientists
are searching for life in other planets, while trying to make humans
live-forever via mutation and other genetic coding process. Moreover, they sure
are making steady progress in that regard.
Conclusively,
Christianity, the only religion that dares promise “eternal damnation” in the
afterlife, seems to be the religion with the better storyline.
No matter what religious affiliation one
chooses, two things are involved: either you are fully in it or you should not
be there at all.
-The
billions of people practising Buddhism cannot all be foolish,
-The
billions of Muslims world over cannot possibly be all foolish,
-The
billions of people practising the Christian faith cannot be a conglomerate of
fool, same goes for Hindu, and other religions.
Perhaps
science is the new, better put, upcoming religion of our time…
Only the
future can tell the truth.
My take:
wherever you find heart’s peace, dwell therein.
Mbonu
Eric.
